The City of Folsom Public Works Department will soon implement the next phase of traffic improvements at the busy intersection of Iron Point Road and East Bidwell Street. These updates aim to improve both traffic flow and safety.
Key Improvements:
- Third Left Turn Lane: Westbound traffic on Iron Point Road turning south onto East Bidwell Street will benefit from a third left-turn lane, which is expected to reduce congestion, particularly during peak hours.
- New Lane Configuration: Southbound traffic in the far-right lane of East Bidwell Street, between Iron Point Road and the U.S. 50 Westbound on-ramp, will be directed to the on-ramp. The middle lane will offer flexibility, allowing drivers to use the on-ramp or continue south. Drivers are encouraged to pay close attention to new signage and road markings as these changes are designed to distribute traffic more evenly.
- HOV Lane Update: The existing HOV lane on the U.S. 50 Westbound on-ramp will be converted into a metered general-purpose lane.
Work is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Monday, October 21, and will continue through the morning of Saturday, October 26. Construction will take place overnight, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., to minimize disruption to traffic. Motorists should expect temporary lane closures and ramp closures and are advised to follow posted detour signs and drive cautiously through the construction area.
