Map-Drawing Tools

Before you get started, please review the criteria. Proposed maps submitted by others will be posted to the Draft Maps page.  Feel free to compare your proposed plan(s) with other maps posted to the Draft Maps page before drawing your own map.

Paper-Only Maps

The public is encouraged to use printable maps to submit ideas for how to split the city into five districts. The printable map includes populations for each census track. Each district must be as close as possible to the same population, with no more than a 1,500-person difference between the largest and smallest districts. If perfectly divided, each district in Folsom would have 15,008 people.

Option A: Use the simple one-page map to draw your proposed districts and calculate the total population.

Option B: You can print and use the more extensive “Public Participation Kit”, which contains detailed instructions, the list of line-drawing criteria, demographics for each Population Unit, and blank maps on which you can draw your proposed plan(s).

Microsoft Excel Supplement

Are you familiar with the basic functions of Microsoft Excel? If you are, you can let Excel do the total population and demographic math for you. Save the Excel file to your computer, then use the Excel file and Map of Population Unit ID numbers to assign the Population Units to your desired districts, and Excel will provide the resulting demographics for each district.

If you want to see exactly where the various Population Unit boundaries are located, or if you have difficulty reading the small print on the 8.5×11 PDF files, you can use this interactive map to zoom in and out on the Population Unit boundaries.

To submit additional feedback, email the City Attorney’s Office at attydept@folsom.ca.us.

Paper maps are also available at the Folsom Public Library and at Folsom City Hall, City Attorney’s Office, located at 50 Natoma Street (second floor), Folsom, CA 95630.
