What is an ADU?

An Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is a second, smaller dwelling that can be built on a property already occupied by a single-family home or an apartment building. ADUs provide independent living for one or more people, including permanent facilities for living, sleeping, eating, cooking, and sanitation.

What must an ADU have?

  • An efficiency kitchen.
    • A sink with a drain, a cooking facility with appliances, counter space, and cabinets.
  • One off street parking space (exclusions apply, see ADU Ordinance Standards).
  • Direct exterior access.
  • Meet the size limits and design standards.
